Hello Everyone!
After doing my Drink More Water Challenge for awhile, I started to get a little tired of drinking attempting to drink a gallon of plain old water everyday. Lately I’ve been searching for the perfect way to add a little flavor to my water to make it more interesting to drink, without adding a ton of extra calories or sugar to my diet. I tried fruit infused water for awhile and though it’s delicious, I’d rather eat my fruit, than just let it sit in my water for flavor. I also went through a phase where I was obsessed with liquid water enhancers, but then I started to feel a little bloated and gross from drinking them so much, so I kicked those to the curb too.
So now what’s a girl doing a drink a gallon of water a day challenge to do when fruit infused water and liquid water enhancers are out of the question? Enter Nuun All Day Hydration and Nuun Active Hydration tabs to the rescue! I had my first experience testing out Nuun Hydration tabs in the Watermelon flavor (MY FAVORITE!!!) during the Daffodil 5k Challenge (which included four 5k’s in four different cities on the same day) back in April. I knew it was going to be an “off” day for running as soon as I crossed the start line. I could tell something had gone seriously wrong with my fueling in the days leading up to the race because I felt dizzy and a little nauseous all the way through the first leg of the challenge. I knew I had to pull it together FAST if I was going to make it through the next three legs of the race.
As soon as I got back to my car to head to the next leg of the race, I immediately popped open a tube of Watermelon Nuun Active Hydration Tabs to add to my water and stuffed my face with some peanut butter toast (I guess it was more like cold bread with peanut butter since my car doesn’t have a toaster, but you get the picture). On my way to the next leg, I drank almost an entire bottle of Nuun and arrived at the second start line feeling better than I had just a short hour before.
Thankfully, I felt like a completely different person during the second leg of the race, than I did at the beginning, and was able to finish strong. The dizziness and nauseousness went away before I even crossed the second start line so I was able to be more confident and focus on enjoying my run. Ever since that day, I’ve been a Nuun fan and use it before and during long periods of cardio activity, like long runs or extended spin classes that are around 90 minutes long.
Since dehydration is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue, I like to use Nuun All Day tabs during the day leading up to a long run or extended spin class if my workout is at night (or I drink it the day before for a morning run or workout) so I make sure to get all my vitamins in to keep my energy levels up. Then I switch to the Nuun Active Hydration tabs during my workout. I love that the tabs are easy to split in half so you can use them to give the water you carry during a race in your fuel belt an extra punch (one Nuun tab is recommended for a 16 oz bottle of water, but a fuel belt bottle typically only holds 10 oz of water). This is a great way to make sure you have the extra electrolytes you need, when you need them, without having to worry when the next water/electrolyte station is at a race. It also allows you to race using the same fuel you train with to avoid upset stomachs. Since Nuun comes in a small tube, instead of a bottle, it’s easier to transport and keep in your gear check bag so you can pop it into cold bottles of water available at the finish line!
Here are all the flavors of Nuun that I currently have on hand: Watermelon Active Hydration (my favorite Active Hydration flavor), Grape Raspberry All Day, Citrus Fruit Active Hydration, Strawberry Lemonade Active Hydration and Tangerine Lime All Day (my favorite All Day flavor). Nuun even has tabs enhanced with energy, if you like to add a little caffeine to your workout, or natural hydration tabs, if you prefer the natural route. You can order all their flavors from the Nuun website or pick them up at your local sporting good store.
Nuun Hydration has been nice enough to give one lucky reader two tubes of Nuun in the flavors of their choice and a Nuun water bottle! Awesome right?!?! Just make sure to leave me a comment below to enter.

You can also find them in certain grocery stores. I think Matt has found them mostly at QFC in the water/sports drink sections. He likes to use them on long bike rides. I’ve tried a few flavors as well.

Thats true! I forgot about that! I bought some at QFC before too.

How are these sweetened? I’ve been looking for something that goes the natural stevia route or something comparable.
