Thoughts While Running The Disney World Half Marathon

Hey there!

How are you guys doing? I wanted to do something a little different this Wednesday in the hopes of keeping things fresh and exciting on here! Every Tuesday, Jessica at The Fit Switch and Jill at Jill Conyers host a link-up with an optional fitness related topic for the #fitfam to post on that day to inspire and support each other (yes, I know I’m a day late in posting this, but better late than never, right?!!?). I love reading their posts each week and they have welcomed me with open arms to the #fitfam, but have yet to post on one of the topics myself because I didn’t think I had enough to say. When I saw this weeks’ topic though, I knew I had to jump in! So what is the topic? Here it is:

Does your mind wander? Thoughts while running or working out.

I usually do some of my best thinking when I’m working out. I find that it helps me clear my head and problems than seemed too complicated before, become much more manageable. After a good sweat session, I usually find that if I was stressed out about something going on in my life, that it really wasn’t as panic inducing of a situation as I had originally thought. Guess that’s the endorphins taking over right?!?

I also find that I come up with some of my most creative ideas when I’m lost in thought running or cycling. I like to really zone out and see where my mind takes me. Usually, I come up with some grand idea about something I want to do or a blog post I want to write and have to immediately type it in the notes app on my phone so I don’t forget it after I’m done having my epiphany moment.

After reading Jill’s post on thoughts during a half marathon, I thought it would be fun to do a post about what I was thinking about during the Disney World Half Marathon I did in January. I did this race before I started this blog, so this seemed like a perfect opportunity to share my experience and some fun photos that I haven’t shared on here yet. Exciting right?!? So here we go:

Thoughts While Running The Disney World Half Marathon

Awake and ready to go around 4:30am to catch the shuttle to the start line.

Where am I? Why am I awake right now? Why is it still dark outside? Oh yeah… it’s half marathon day! That explains why I’m wearing so much sequin so early in the morning! Must eat peanut butter english muffin and banana NOW!

Corral selfie time!

Oh crap. This is really happening. What if I get picked up by the pace car for going to slow? That would be so embarrassing. What if my knee acts up and I have to drop out? That would also be embarrassing. I guess it’s too late to chicken out now though since I flew all the way across the country to be here!1620408_10101531867806509_1890381441_n

Time for a big group hug! 🙂

At least we’re all in this together. If all of these people can do it, so can I. Let’s rock this race!

One mile down, 12.1 to go.

I love running so much! I feel like I am flying and it’s awesome! Best way to start a morning ever. I feel alive!604079_868229309790_1692063936_n

Photo op outside of Cinderella’s Castle? Yes, please! I can’t believe I just ran through Cinderella’s Castle! I wonder how much it costs to stay the night here. I wonder if people are sleeping in there now. I wonder if we are waking them up. Better try to be quiet… Scratch that… Screw quiet… this is awesome!!!1559880_10101531881159749_1728262387_n

OMG! I am almost further into this race than I have ever raced before! Kinda excited to cross the 10k mile marker. I’m really suprised how well I’m doing. I don’t feel like death. My knee is cooperating with me. Don’t forget to hydrate so this doesn’t end poorly for you! This is new territory now. Be excited. Don’t freak out. 154889_10101531881683699_298508493_n

Don’t forget to smile for the cameras. Must have good race photos!

OH S***! They weren’t joking when they said the last 3.1 miles are the hardest. DON’T DIE! DON’T DIE! DON’T DIE! 1017371_10101531882527009_842380903_n

AHHHHHH!!!! Almost there!!! Legs, don’t fail me now! Ouch ouch ouch. Please just give me 1.1 more miles and I won’t make you do anything ever again. Is that a choir singing “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus? What is this wet stuff running down my face? Oh yup. You’re crying. Try to be cool and not let anyone see you crying. High five station?!?! Couldn’t have come at a more perfect time!  I think I might be dying. I can see the finish line but it doesn’t seem to be getting any closer. My Garmin says this should have been done .15 miles ago… Screw you Garmin, screw you.

Oh my gosh I thought I’d never make it here! That was much harder and much easier than I thought it was going to be all at the same time. Not sure how that’s a thing, but it’s true. Holy s***! I just finished my first half marathon! Where’s the lady with the medals?!!?

Look what I got everyone!!!!

Gotta get some ice on my knees STAT to try to get a heads up on any pain or swelling that may be on the way. Thank you nice man for bringing me ice, pain meds, wrapping up my knees and taking a picture so I can post it to Facebook. You are my hero.

Not gonna lie… I feel kind of tough right now even though I can barely walk. Watch out world! I’m awesome! Now where’s the food? I need all of the food in my belly NOW! Why is the shuttle back to our hotel SOOOOO far away? When can I take a nap?
