I know it’s been a long time since we’ve had a chance to catch up but I wanted to check in with you today on #WeirdWorkout. It’s important to mix things up when it comes to your workouts to keep things interesting and exciting, keep your body guessing about what’s coming next and to try out some fun new things that you might not normally try. So when prAna and Organic Valley reached out to me to partner with them to help promote their #WeirdWorkout contest, I was all in.
Before we get to the details of the super awesome contest and a discount that you’ll want to make sure to check out, I thought I would share some ideas of how you can get your #WeirdWorkout on!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and took your shoes out for a run or two this weekend. It was insanely hot by Seattle standards last weekend, so my 5 mile long run at noon on Saturday turned out to be a bit more challenging than I had hoped it would be. That’s the good thing about training though is that you’re TRAINING and LEARNING what works for you and what doesn’t.
This weekend I learned that long runs at noon, the heat and sweet potatoes paired with half a banana and some PB for pre run fuel do not mix well. Who would have thought? Definitely not some of the smartest decisions I’ve ever made, but you live and you learn. Right? Anywhoo… I’d definitely rather learn that lesson now than on race day…
I hope you’ve all had a good week of running so far! Good luck to everyone on their long runs this weekend. I’ve got 5 miles on the agenda for tomorrow which I’m a little nervous about for some reason. It’s my first time covering that distance without stopping in who knows how long… I’m guessing around a year so yeah… should be interesting.
Anyhoo, I thought I’d check in today with a fun survey that my coach Laura posted a little while back. Feel free to answer some of the would you rathers in the comment section below or post on your own blog. I’d love to hear your answers!
This recap has been a long time coming but better late than never right?!!? Late in the afternoon last Saturday, Carleeh sent me a text saying that she had an extra bib for The Beats 10k that evening and asked if I wanted to join her. So I thought “Why not agree to an impromptu 10k starting in around 2.5 hours?” so I said yes! We agreed that we were going to just be running for fun and taking breaks whenever we needed to so I felt comfortable taking this on even though my current longest distance had been around 3 miles before the race.
I’ve talked a little bit about this race in my posts this week, so I’m excited to finally talk more about this with all of you. The United Relay of America is unlike any race I’ve ever heard of before. It’s a triple-route coast-to-coast non stop running relay. For the first time in history, three unbroken chains of runners will relay nearly 12,000 miles across the United States.
Not sure if anyone still checks in on my little corner of the blogosphere anymore but I wanted to check in. I know I’ve been horrible about posting recently since life has taken over, but I’ve really been focusing on work and spending as much time with friends and family as possible. I’ve also been struggling about what to post about since my activity level has taken a serious decrease after this. Continue reading →
If you would have asked me a couple years ago if I would have been excited to run .75 miles on the dreadmill in 8:01 minutes, I probably would have laughed at you. Back then, if I was going to go for a run, it was going to be at minimum 3.1 miles at a pace of at least 8:30 minutes per mile. I rarely ever ran on the dreadmill because I preferred to run on either the beautiful trail along the water by my office or on the convenient streets of my neighborhood. I liked to run on a terrain similar to what I would be running on during the races I used to compete in EVERY.SINGLE.WEEKEND.Continue reading →
Do you ever have one of those days that you just need to get out of the office for a little breather to help you reset? Yesterday was one of those days for me. I normally don’t take a lunch break, but yesterday I decided I needed to get out and get some fresh air. I ended up walking a total of 1.54 miles round trip in exactly 30 minutes. I felt a lot less irritable when I got back to the office, so I think I’m going to start doing this more regularly, while the weather is still on my side!
Have you guys been having a good weekend? I’ve honestly been doing a whole lot of nothing so far. Later today, I’m headed over to a friends house for a little girl time before heading to a BBQ today so I’m excited about that!
