How to Stick to Your Workout Schedule This Summer

Once the sun comes out and your friends come out of hibernation mode, invites to get out and enjoy the weather seem to come in left and right. That being said, fitness still needs to be a priority, but making it a priority doesn’t mean you have to ditch out on all the fun summer invites you receive! With just a few easy swaps, you can have the best of both worlds!

Let’s check them out!

1. Move your workouts outside.

If where you live is anything like it is here in Seattle, it’s absolutely beautiful here during the spring and summer months. This time of year doesn’t last very long in our neck of the woods, so when the sun is out, we all like to take advantage of it, which can make it hard to stick to your normal workout routine.

Why not try moving some of your workouts outside so you can enjoy the beautiful weather AND get in your sweat session?!!? Now that’s my type of multitasking! For example, try running or biking outside instead of on the treadmill or spin bike. Different types of HIIT and circuit training workouts can also easily be modified to be moved outside during the summer months, too!

2. Try something new.

The warmer months are also a good time to try something new. If you live near the water, now is a great time to try paddle boarding, paddle board yoga (SCARY!!!), rowing, kayaking or check out a ropes course,  if it’s something you’ve been interested in before.

Some of these activities can’t be enjoyed year round, so take advantage of it while you can!

3. Make your workouts a social event.

This way you can have your cake and eat it too, so to speak! Convince your friends to go for a long walk, try out a new fitness class or get a group of friends together to go on a hike.

You and your friends can also do a fun run together like the Adventure Run, The Color Run or a relay 5k! I’m definitely THAT person that makes her friends do ALL of the fun runs and as long as there is a beer garden at the end, everyone is usually a pretty happy camper!

4. Become a morning workout person.

This is by far the hardest tip for me to implement in my everyday life since I like to hit snooze for about 30 minutes and roll out of bed at the absolute LAST POSSIBLE MINUTE.

If you’re able to get your booty in bed a little earlier at night, then you’ll be able to fit a workout in before work. This way you can still take advantage of all of the after work summer fun, while not letting your fitness slip.

BONUS: It’s usually less crowded if you head out early for a run/bike/hike in the AM and it’s usually cooler too! Just make sure to be safe if your sweating alone!
