Weekend in Review: Rock and Roll Seattle & All Things Running!

This weekend was all about running, as all good weekends should be.

My friend, Jenica, ran her first half marathon over the weekend at the Rock and Roll Seattle Half. She totally killed it, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s start from Friday night at the expo!

As always, I’m linking up with Tara at Running N Reading, Katie at Healthy Diva Life and Erin at Her Heartland Soul for their weekend recap linkups. If you have a blog, consider linking up your weekend recap posts too and/or stop by to read what others did over the weekend! So let’s get into it!

I started off my weekend on Friday night working the ClassPass booth with these awesome girls.

The Brooks Run Happy Island made it’s Seattle debut at the Rock and Roll expo, so I had to check it out.

IMG_5952

There were tons of cool areas to check out and win prizes. I won a Run Happy shirt!

IMG_5954

You can even get your gait analyzed and try on shoes for your foot type. I wanted to check this out for fun, but the line was WAY to long so maybe next time.

IMG_5957

There was a Lorna Jane booth at the expo and everything was 20% off! I picked up a new tank and pair of crop pants. If you haven’t checked out their stuff yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. The fit is AMAZING!

After the expo, I met up with my friend, Tracey for dinner and then we watched a movie while I made this sign for the race the next morning. My markers were not cooperating, so this wasn’t my best work.

IMG_5971

I was able to make my way to the course after hitting every single detour possible to cheer for Jenica in between mile 7 and 8. Then I headed to the finish line where I saw this gem of a billboard that made me LOL.

IMG_5974

This is the final stretch of the course. It seems like a mean joke to put the Mercer hill in the final stretch of the race.

IMG_5975

I put my Nuun cowbell to good use at the finish line.

IMG_5980

Nice work lady! Way to finish strong!

IMG_5981

I’m so proud of you! I can’t wait to do this one together next year on my BIRTHDAY!!! Rock and Roll Seattle is running a presale through next Sunday that if you register for next year’s marathon or half marathon, your registration fee is 50% off! That means it’s $50 for the half and $55 for the full!

IMG_5982

Brunch, mimosas and beer to celebrate.

IMG_5991

I got taped at the expo to see if it would help my injury at all and went for a run/walk after brunch to test it out. It was too beautiful of a day not to take advantage of!

IMG_5996

After my conversation with the fill in chiropractor last week, I’m determined to do everything I can to prove her wrong when she said maybe I wasn’t meant to be a distance runner anymore. I don’t want to jinx it and it may not be pretty at all, but so far so good.

IMG_5992

I spent some quality time stretching and foam rolling afterwards. Photo cropped for your viewing pleasure.

IMG_5999

Then I changed and did some foam rolling in my watermelon shorts before heading to Chipotle with Jenica for dinner.

IMG_6011

Burrito bowls are my favorite. I love ALL of the guac!

IMG_6009

Saturday morning was lazy and started out with finishing this book. It was meh.

IMG_5951

Then I started this book, which I’m definitely enjoying!

IMG_6035

Breakfast was Silk yogurt, fresh strawberries and gluten free granola. YUM!

IMG_6014

I tried Pure Barre for the first time. Talk about intense! Thankfully I wasn’t the only new person there having a hard time keeping up!

IMG_6020

Then I headed down to Greenlake to enjoy this view. I definitely lucked out on location when I moved. The commute by bus is a little long, but being close to the lake definitely makes up for it!

IMG_6034

Then I treated myself to a smoothie from a vegan smoothie bar on the lake and did some grocery shopping at Trader Joes!

I’m definitely not ready to head back to work this morning, but I’m glad I was able to take full advantage of the sun this weekend!

Questions of the Day:

What did you do this weekend?

Did you race this weekend? If not, what was your favorite workout?

What was your favorite eat from the weekend?

  1. Sounds like an absolutely amazing weekend! So jealous of your expo trip : ) They are my absolute favorite haha. I spent a lot of my weekend with friends, but was able to squeeze in some beach time Sunday which was perfect! No race this weekend – but was able to actually get in a run which was something I was really looking forward to. Hope you have a fabulous start to your week!

  2. This looks like such a great time! And man, were you busy!

I didn’t race this weekend – it was just too hot and we had other plans. However, I did do some running and my favorite food from the weekend was homemade guacamole. Although, I do love me some Chipotle.

  3. I’m loving Pure Barre but I have to break the poses all the time. I’m there to build stamina and strength but sometimes I just have to break for a couple seconds.

    • Yeah I definitely couldn’t do it straight through either so I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one! Please tell me it gets easier with time because my first class was a STRUGGLE!

    • It was an absolute blast! I only wish I had also been able to run the race but there’s always next year!

And THANK YOU! I will let her know! 🙂

  4. Super jealous of your pure barre class and Brooks expo weekend – I love my Brooks and that Run Happy Island looks like fun 🙂 I got to have a girls night out with my Runner Girls, definitely a rarity! then ran on Sunday in the humidity! I try not to do a lot of races in the Midwest heat – I really struggle with the temperature change! Back at it in November though! Thanks for sharing your fun Weekend Update!

    • It was an absolute blast! So happy you were able to have a girls night out with your runner friends! It’s always nice to have friend time and you definitely must take advantage of it!

I completely understand about the heat. I struggle too, but I’m trying to adapt since running when it’s sunny out is so beautiful and always puts me in a good mood! Thanks for stopping by!

      • The first few weeks in the humidity are ridiculously miserable – just when I finally start to feel fully adjusted, the weather starts to cool off. Not that I’m complaining – I LOVE fall running! But I rarely feel comfortable in the heat!

  5. Um, I wouldn’t want to give up, either, Tricia; I don’t think that one professional’s opinion should color your entire view and I’m glad that it hasn’t! Great job cheering on your friend through the race; y’all are so cute!! I hope things will get better for you and way to go with trying something new! Pure Barre is no joke, girl! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog today; you made a great pick with Sarah Jio – I love her books! Hope your Monday is going well!

    • Awww thanks so much! I don’t want to jinx it, but I think the rocktape has helped a lot. I was able to get in a couple of pain free short runs since I had it put on which is more than I’ve been able to do in the last 6 months, so fingers crossed that this is part of the solution for me! I love Sarah Jio too! I picked it out while I waited for the other one you recommended to become available! Happy Monday!

  6. If your chiro told you that, I would take that as a reason not to see them anymore. I get very annoyed with Dr’s who aren’t runners they like to tell everyone that running may not be an option any more. When I first had my work injury I visited a Specialist who told me I would never run again. I of course never saw him again, I found a Dr. who works with athletes and it was never a question about if, it was all about getting me back to running and I am. So ya, hope you can find someone better to help you!
But I do think it’s awesome you went and cheered your friend, so nice of you! Gotta love a great cow bell!!!

    • Yeah agreed! Thankfully she wasn’t my normal doctor but I am going to a specialist anyways who works with athletes just to be sure I’m doing everything right. I’m glad you were able to start running again and that definitely gives me hope too!

Aww thanks so much! She’s a good friend to me so it was the least I could do. It was so much fun to watch her finish and be excited about running. I made her sign up for the half again next year with me because I’m determined to finish it!

  8. Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle is one of my favorite races. I can’t believe I missed the ClassPass booth at the expo. I love CP and am a die-hard fan 🙂 I’m glad you had a fun and enjoyable weekend. Too bad we couldn’t have met out on the course. xo

    • That would have been awesome! Maybe next year when you come back! I’m already registered for next year!

I’m obsessed with CP too! What has been your favorite class so far?
