Weekend In Review – Baking & Movie Marathon!

Hey there lovely people!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I feel a little spoiled because the weather here is resembling spring, while those of you on the east coast are having to run in freezing temperatures. I took my furry friends out for a walk today and didn’t even have to wear a coat! Crazy… I know! I’ll stop now though before you east coasters officially start to hate me!

This weekend got off to a rocky start with lots of head pains that kept me on the couch and in pajamas for most of Friday. At least I had Bella to keep me company! (In case you’re wondering, the monkey is a neck pillow 🙂

Soup is usually always my go to food when I’m not feeling well, but I decided to take it up a notch this time and add some hemp hearts to my soup to up its nutritional value.

Friday evening I met up with my friend, Callie, for dinner and of course cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory. After dinner, we shared a piece of raspberry white chocolate cheesecake. YUM!

Then we headed over to the movie theater to see McFarland, USA. When a friend agrees to see a running movie even though they themselves don’t enjoy running, they are a good friend. If you haven’t seen this movie already, I’d definitely check it out!

On Saturday morning, I went on a baking rampage and made cake mix caramel chocolate chip cookies…

which I will be posting a recipe for later this week. They were delicious!

Then I made these Apple Oat Pre Workout Bars from Run, Eat, Repeat. I had one for breakfast yesterday morning and they were delicious! I forgot to take a photo of them once they were done baking, but you get the point with this pre baked photo.

I received this fun package from Lauryn at The Skinny Confidential on Saturday that was full of fun goodies I couldn’t wait to check out. (Aren’t her business cards adorable?!?!)

My favorite thing so far is this yummy smelling perfume. Isn’t the bottle adorable? I’ve worn it every day since I got it!

After mail time, I continued with my baking rampage at my aunt and uncles house for a Taken & Taken 2 movie marathon so the movies were fresh in our minds when we went to see Taken 3 in the theater on Sunday afternoon. I made these banana chocolate chip muffins with whipped peanut butter frosting and hemp hearts or coconut flakes on top for some of our movie treats.

On Sunday, I took my two favorite fluffy friends for a walk. Well actually they were beyond excited to go for a walk, so it was more like they were walking me! Between all the sniff stops we had to take every five seconds, that is!

I took a little bit of a break from my normal workout routine this weekend because my head has been bothering me a little so I decided to spend the weekend resting up a little.

On Sunday night, I met up with my mom, aunt and uncle for the grand finale of our Taken marathon. Eeeekkk! It was a good one! They definitely left it hanging at the end, so I have a feeling there’s a Taken 4 in the works!

I’m really excited for The Longest Ride, the newest Nicholas Sparks book turned movie to come out in April. I saw a preview for it and it looks like it’s going to be a good one! Plus, it’s about ponies and cowboys, so what’s not to like?!!? 🙂

    • I go through spurts apparently. I haven’t been to the movies in forever and now I’ve gone to three in the past few weeks. There are some decent ones coming out soon too!

  2. Tricia, I’m so sorry that your head was bothering you this weekend; sounds like you made the best of it with a movie marathon and lots of fun treats! We watched Fury and St. Vincent (from Redbox!); Fury was…meh, but St. Vincent was really cute. I’m reading an amazing new book called The Bullet by Mary Louise Kelly; I can’t seem to put it down. Hope you are feeling better and that your week is off to a great start; thanks so much for linking up with the blog today!

I also saw McFarland over the weekend. It was so good. I totes teared up at the end – so touching!

As for movie snacks, I’m a popcorn girl. With extra butter and salt!

  4. I planned to see McFarland Saturday but it just didn’t happen. I’m glad to know its worth it. Your caramel chocolate chip cookies look amazing! I’m a big fan of Nicholas Sparks so I either missed that book or have forgotten I read it (which sadly happens a lot).

    • I had the same reaction to that book honestly. I almost finished it and completely forgot I had read it before when I started reading it again until I found my bookmark further along in the book! It was much better the second time around when it came to reading it and the movie looks like it’s going to be pretty good. Sorry you weren’t able to catch McFarland. I’d definitely recommend seeing it! And the cookies are amazing! I’ll be posting the recipe next week!

  5. I’m reading Intuitive Eating and rereading the Gifts of Imperfection.

At home or in the theatre popcorn is my go to movie snack. My stomach is not a fan of theatre popcorn so I take my own. And, every now and then dark chocolate M&Ms to go with the popcorn. It’s a heavenly combination!

    • I have a feeling the Gifts of Imperfection would be a good one for me to read!

YUMMY! That sounds delicious! Honestly, I bet homemade popcorn tastes better. The smell gets me every time at the theater, but I’m almost always let down by the taste of it.

    • I think it’s one that is often overlooked for some reason because I had the same reaction when I first realized it was being made into a movie until I realized I had already read the book. The movie looks more memorable though!

  7. With the exception of the bad headache (boo!), it looks like you had a fun weekend! I love seeing movies, so seeing 2 in 1 weekend sounds like bliss to me. I really want to see “McFarland USA” and am considering taking my kids. My son says he wants to run cross country so I think it may inspire him.

I watched “Birdman” on my iPad when I was in Sun Valley. All I can say is that I *still* think “Boyhood” should have won the Best Film Oscar. Right now I’m reading a book called “Wolf Winter.” It’s set in 18th century Sweden and follows a woman and her daughters who have moved to a creepy, remote area.

    • It was a lot of fun! Yeah I think it would be an inspiring movie for him for sure. I really liked it. I need to check out “Boyhood”! Did you finish “The Bullet” yet? I was going to pick it up yesterday but decided to hit the hay a little early. Lame… I know. hahah!

Hope you had a fun trip!
