My Top 5 All Time Best Health and Fitness Decisions

Hey everyone!

Today I’m linking up with Jill Conyers and Jessica at The Fit Switch for The Fit Dish! This weeks optional topic is “Top 5 All Time Best Health and Fitness Decisions” and I can’t wait to share mine with you! Let’s get into it!

1. Joining the Tone It Up “Love Your Body” Challenge

In January of 2013, I made the decision to join the Tone It Up “Love Your Body” challenge which was absolutely the best decision I think I’ve ever made for myself. But seriously though. Participating in this challenge was the thing that really forced me to get serious about fitness and start taking my health seriously.

The challenge lasts for 30 days and is complete with a workout schedule put together by Katerina and Karena that takes the guess work out of coming up with a balanced workout routine each week all by your lonesome. At the end of the 30 day challenge, a healthy habit was formed and it was an awesome feeling! It’s been love ever since!

2. Signing up for my first 5k

I was never interested in running before the “Love Your Body” challenge, but slowly increasing my mileage to the point of being able to complete a 5k was part of the challenge, so I gave it a try. It was absolutely love at first run! After I ran across the finish line of my first 5k, I was hooked!

3. Making fitness friends at the gym

No matter how dedicated you are to your health and fitness routine, inevitably there will be days when you just don’t feel like going to the gym. This is where having fitness friends come into play. There have been so may times that I haven’t wanted to go to the gym but went anyways because I wanted to see my friends in spin or bootcamp. There’s nothing that feels better after a long day then walking into spin class and being greeted by my gym friends. It instantly brings a smile to my face and erases the stress of the day.

4. Reintroducing yoga into my workout schedule

This was something that was on my list of goals for 2015 and I’ve been sticking to it so far! I’ve really been loving practicing yoga more often because it forces me to focus on being in the moment and helps me to refocus. I feel so calm and relaxed afterwards, so it’s definitely something I’m planning on keeping in my workout routine going forward.

5. Starting this blog

Starting this blog was one of the best health and fitness decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve really loved the journey of starting this blog and all of the people I’ve met through this process. It’s also forced me to try new things, which has been a really exciting experience. I won’t bore you with any more details, but just know that I love chatting with you all each and every day! 🙂

  1. I love this topic, so cute! I should totally follow the fit switch.

Unsurprisingly, my best decisions are really close to yours. I started running and yoga basically out of nowhere, and love both now. And the blog has been really motivating and inspiring to see so many people out doing the same thing.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about TIU. I hear they have a really big community. Do you still participate in that?

    • You totally should! She does a linkup every Tuesday with an optional topic that makes for good blog material usually. 🙂

It’s so funny. I’ve read some of the other posts on this topic and everyone’s decisions are pretty closely related. I was a little worried mine might have been somewhat off the mark!

They have a HUGE community. I don’t really participate any more, but it was a really great way to get me started and form a healthy habit.

  2. These are all great decisions. I especially like how you listed making friends at the gym. It’s always nice to see familiar faces. One of my best decisions was incorporating more strength in my fitness routine. Now I do Bodypump and yoga, and I can really see and feel a difference!

    • I completely agree! Having gym friends really makes all the difference sometimes.

Good job on incorporating more strength training and yoga! Getting into strength training is one of the hardest things for people to get into, but definitely worth it! Have a great week!

    • Yeah I was a little worried my decisions were somewhat off the mark for the topic, but I seem to have pretty similar answers to everyone else. 🙂 Thanks again for hosting!

  3. challenges are great, aren’t they! sometimes that is all we need to push us out there and look at all the great things you have discovered! I love my yoga class- I really want to bump it up from 1 per week to 2 🙂

  4. Love it! And, especially love that you have made a gym family! I had a great one, but then switched gyms, and haven’t built one up similar yet! Luckily, I just joined my old gym again, along with the gym I currently teach at, and am already being much more social. I LOVE that aspect of fitness; it makes it feel like a party, which I LOVE! Thanks Tricia! So proud of all you have done! Way to go, and thanks for the inspiration!

    • Hahahahah! Yeah, I think it’s kind of like a yoga cult thing. The people who are into yoga are ALL IN so it makes it hard to miss being hit over the head with how awesome it is all the time! The Yoga with Adriene videos on YouTube are a great place to start!

      Have a great weekend!

  5. I think one thing I NEED to do is make friends at the gym and/or find a workout buddy. I need the accountability, for sure!

My greatest fitness decision was to get a personal trainer a few years ago. She taught me a lot about how to gain muscles without “bulking up” and that just getting on a cardio machine for 30 minutes a few days a week wasn’t going to make the changes I wanted to see. I am so glad I had her to help me get started the right way with fitness!
